Step Deck

A step deck, also known as a drop deck trailer, is a type of flatbed trailer designed with two deck levels: an upper deck near the truck’s cab and a lower deck that sits closer to the ground. This design allows for taller cargo to be transported, as the lower deck provides extra clearance, often up to 10 feet in height, without exceeding legal height restrictions for road transport.

Step deck trailers are commonly used to haul oversized loads that are too tall for standard flatbeds, such as construction equipment, machinery, and industrial materials. The lower deck can handle heavy and large cargo, while the upper deck is typically used for smaller items or equipment. Like flatbeds, step decks are open trailers without sides or a roof, allowing for easy loading and unloading from the sides or with cranes.

Their versatility makes step deck trailers popular in industries such as construction, agriculture, and manufacturing, where large, heavy, or tall loads are common. The design also helps avoid the need for special permits that would be required for hauling over-height cargo on standard flatbed trailers.
